Gimel ID builds on the national identity card of the respective country, which is issued by the national authorities. The national identity is being upgraded with a premium security protocol that we call “Gimel ID”. It allows a global prove of an individual`s identity. Germany has introduced digital ID card, called eID:

The eID, in German called “AusweisApp” (previously known as AusweisApp2), is a software application that allows you to use your ID card, electronic residence permit, or digital eID card on your smartphone, tablet, or computer for secure online identification. Here are some key points:

  • Secure Connection: The AusweisApp establishes a secure and encrypted connection between your ID document and the service provider.
  • Supported Devices: The app works on Android (from version 9.0), iOS (from version 14.0), macOS (from version 12.0), Windows 10 (64 Bit) and 11, as well as Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022.
  • PIN Management: You can change your 5-digit transport PIN to a self-chosen 6-digit PIN to activate the online identification function.
  • Authorization Certificate: Before each reading process, the app displays the service provider’s authorization certificate, which specifies who will receive your data and which data from your ID card will be read.
  • Open-Source: The AusweisApp is available under the EUPL 1.2 license, and its source code is available on GitHub.

The eID is thus providing a verified identity that Gimel ID as much as the Gimel Wallet* or the Bespoke G-Wallet build on in Germany. For the EU, we support the European Commission’s efforts to introduce a European digital identity. Our Gimel ID or our Gimel Wallet* and Bespoke G-Wallet, respectively, are complying with EU standards and being recognized throughout the EU.
