From GenAI to Agentive AI

AI Governance becomes increasingly relevant as Generative AI evolves towards Agentive AI. The delegation of authority to make decision is requesting a clear governance. Let`s have a closer look:

Generative AI (GenAI)
Generative AI specializes in creating new content based on the data it has been trained on. This includes:

  • Text: such as automatic text generation, and dialog systems.
  • Images: such as AI-assisted image creation or editing.
  • Music and Videos: such as generated music pieces or animated sequences.

Generative AI uses deep neural networks and other machine learning techniques to recognize patterns in the training data and generate new, similar content. It primarily operates reactively, generating content based on user inputs or predefined parameters.

Agentive AI
Agentive AI, on the other hand, takes things a step further by making autonomous, goal-directed decisions and taking actions. Key features include:

  • Autonomy: Agentive AI can take over tasks and make decisions independently.
  • Proactivity: It not only reacts but also actively seeks ways to achieve predefined goals.
  • Complex Decision Making: It can make complex decisions by weighing various information sources and selecting the best course of action.

A central aspect of agentive AI is the delegation of decision-making authority. While generative AI mainly provides tools that are controlled and monitored by humans, agentive AI allows for the complete automation of certain decision processes based on the authorization of humans. This requires more than trust in AI systems and their ability to make reliable and ethical decisions. It requests a clear governance about the extent of the power of attorney granted.
