National Digital Identities

Gimel ID builds on the national identity card of the respective country, which is issued by the national authorities. The national identity is being upgraded with a premium security protocol that we call “Gimel ID”. It allows a global prove of an individual`s identity. Many countries have already introduced digital ID cards or similar systems, like in the EU. Here are some examples:

  • Germany: The digital ID card (eID) of Germany offers citizens a comparatively secure and simple way to identify themselves digitally. eID Arrow.
  • Netherlands: The DigiD system has existed since 2003 and offers an online ID function for a variety of uses in dealing with public authorities, etc. .
  • Belgium: Belgium has introduced a digital identity card system called ‘Belgian eID’ that can be used for various government and private services.
  • Spain: Spain also offers a digital identity card that can be used for online and government services.
  • Italy: Italy has introduced a system called ‘SPID’ (Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale) that allows citizens to identify themselves securely online.
  • France: France has developed a system called ‘FranceConnect’ that allows citizens to authenticate themselves with a single login on various government and private services.
  • USA: Based on the Improving Digital Identity Act the US is currently trying to develop and introduce a national solution.
