Other Ident Methods

Gimel ID builds on the national identity card of the respective country, which is issued by the national authorities. The national identity is being upgraded with a premium security protocol that we call Gimel ID. Additionally, other ident methods like Video-Ident and Foto_Ident can be used, where requested:

  • Video-Ident
    Video-Ident is an online identification procedure conducted via video chat. Here are the steps involved:
    Start API: The link in our Gimel Wallet* which directs you to the Video-Ident platform.
    Start Video Call: You start a video call and show your national ID card to the camera.
    Show ID: An employee verifies your ID and conducts a video verification.
    Confirm TAN: You receive a transaction number (TAN) via SMS, which you enter to complete the process.

  • Photo-Ident
    Photo-Ident is a procedure where your identity is verified using a photo of your national ID document and a selfie. Here are the steps:
    Take Photos: You take photos of the front and back of your ID document and a selfie.
    Data Verification: An employee verifies the photos and compares the selfie with the ID document.
    Confirmation: After verification, you gain access to the desired services.

For the EU, we support the European Commission’s efforts to introduce a European digital identity. Our Gimel ID, hosted by our Gimel Wallet* or Bespoke G-Wallet, is complying with EU standards and being accepted throughout the EU (from 2026 onwards).

Both procedures were established in the past, however, considered to provide limited security and, therefore, offer an additional way to verify your identity online, where required. Biometrics Arrow
